Michael Jordan has a strong connection with the Carolina Blue or Powder Blue hue. It was the “coaching legend” Dean Smith who discovered Michael Jordan, back when he was the head coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. Had that not happened, maybe Michael Jordan would have never made it to the NBA and perhaps there would be no Jordan Brand or Air Jordan line. Hence, sneakerheads are likely thankful for that. Along with the “Bred” color scheme, Carolina Blue is one of the most iconic hues to have appeared on Air Jordan sneakers. One such sneaker is the returning Air Jordan 11 Low“Columbia.”

Thus, it makes sense for Jordan Brand to frequently get the hue to appear over a number of Jordan releases over the years, as a nod to the University of North Carolina and the Tar Heels. The North Carolina Tar Heels are currently ranked 11th. In a recent game against the 9th-ranked Florida State Seminoles, the Tar Heels managed to be victorious despite using a small lineup. Even Michael Jordan’s days of being a member of the Tar Heels are far behind him, his former team is doing very well these days.

It seems that brand new photos of surfaced that allow sneakerheads to make a side-by-side comparison of the original Air Jordan 11 Low “Columbia” and 2017’s upcoming version. It was back in 2001 when Jordan Brand had originally dropped this sneaker. Despite returning eleven years later, this year’s Air Jordan 11 Low “Columbia.” The Columbia Blue hue that appears over this sneaker’s patent leather overlays is not the same as Carolina Blue, but the difference is negligible, and the inspiration from MJ’s alma mater cannot be denied. The rest of its premium leather uppers are clean White, while it is equipped with all-White midsoles and icy, translucent outsoles.

The Air Jordan 11 Low “Columbia” will once again arrive at select Jordan Brand and Nike retailers, where its adult-sized pairs will retail at a price of $175 and it GS-sized pairs will retail at a price of $130.
