Many of those reading this post likely remember what rap videos that came out between 1998 and 2004 used to be like. For those who do not happen to recall, rappers around that time were usually spotted rocking three particular items in their respective videos, namely jerseys, jewelry and Timberland boots. No doubt, basketball sneakers are in vogue now, but this was not always the case. Even leading brands like Nike and Jordan Brand, which are well-known for their basketball shoes, have often drawn inspiration from Timberland boots. This latest Air Jordan 4 colorway also falls in that category because of its “Wheat” color scheme.
The trend of Wheat-based sneakers had indeed been inspired by Timberland boots, and there have been several noteworthy kicks from Jordan Brand and Nike that have sported those boot-like aesthetics. Such notable examples of Wheat-based sneakers include the Nike Air Zoom Generation “Wheat” from 2004 and the Nike LeBron 12 EXT “Wheat” from 2015. This is also not the first time that an Air Jordan model has been dressed up in a “Wheat” color scheme. Regardless of its nickname, the Air Jordan 16 “Ginger” had undoubtedly been directly inspired from Timberland boots. This time, a much earlier Air Jordan silhouette is receiving this treatment.
As mentioned, the Air Jordan 4 is the next model from the line to receive the “Wheat” treatment, which turns out will actually be a Premium rendition of the silhouette. There are likely numerous sneakerheads who have been planning to cop a pair and while many will be able to do so, not all will succeed. This is because this Air Jordan 4 Premium “Wheat” will be a limited release since Jordan Brand has reportedly only crafted a total of 9,000 pairs. Along with its all-Wheat uppers and Gum Rubber soles, and its Premium aesthetics, this Air Jordan 4 certainly resembles a Timberland boot. Stay tuned for a release date to be announced.
