It may seem hard to believe, one year has already passed since Kobe Bryant retired from professional basketball. The “Black Mamba” was 37 years old when he concluded his illustrious NBA career with a final game on April 14th, 2016 in which he scored a total of 60 points. For many basketball enthusiasts, the Los Angeles Lakers do not seem the same without Kobe. Despite being a sad day, April 14th was declared as Mamba Day in his honor and sneakerheads are likely aware that April 14th, 2017 just went by. Thus, for this year’s Mamba Day, the Air Jordan 9 “Kobe” got restocked on Nike SNKRS.
Kobe Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 years or so before he finally hung up his boots. Kobe played his first regular season game as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers back on November 3rd, 1996 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Back then when he played for just six minutes and scored no points apart a block and a rebound, no one would have guessed that Kobe would go on to become such a legend in professional basketball. Considering that Kobe was 37 years old when he retired last year, it was surprising that he managed to score 60 points before bidding the sport farewell.
The Air Jordan 9 “Kobe” made its retail debut last year on November 19th, 2016, nearly seven months after the Black Mamba’s retirement. Through the sneaker, Jordan Brand paid tribute to his illustrious career and legacy. Hence, the sneaker was dressed was up in the Purple, Yellow and White of the Los Angeles Lakers. Prior to being officially, the Air Jordan 9 “Kobe” had actually made its debut Nike Soho store, which had just been opened at that time. This was the first time that the sneaker got restocked. The sneaker was made available again for $190 to Nike SNKRS users and stocks likely flew off the shelve rather quickly.
