It was three decades ago that Tinker Hatfield designed Nike’s Air technology and the Air Sole units came to be. Both the Air Jordan 3 and the Air Max 1 were at first introduced as performance sneakers. However, not only have they have become Jordan Brand’s and Nike’s most popular models that are highly in demand, they have also become favorites of those are fond of lifestyle sneakers. This is why atmos picked the Air Max 1 when the Tokyo brand collaborated with Nike in 2007. With March 18th, 2017 set to mark another Air Max Day, Nike is being back the atmos x Air Max 1 “Elephant Print.”
The Air Max 1 iteration that Hirofumi Kojima designed back in 2007 got its nickname from the signature Elephant Print that was borrowed from the Air Jordan 3. Nike recently interviewed Hirofumi to discuss how he ended up coming up with the idea for and designing the Air Max 1 “Elephant Print.” Sneakerheads may find it hard to believe, but Hirofumi’s creation did not initially draw inspiration from the Air Jordan 3. After spotting a number of vintage Nike kicks featuring zebra prints, Hirofumi decided to add animal prints to the Air max 1. Apparently, Hirofumi was going with “the concept of zoo.”
Back in 2007, Hirofumi was hoping to use premium leather rather than patent leather for the Jade-colored Nike “Swoosh” on the sneaker’s sides. However, the returning atmos x Air Max 1 “Elephant Print” will not really feature any changes, rather it will look just like the original. Overall, this sneaker will have a classic Black and White color scheme. However, its uppers are accentuated with elephant print-covered overlays, while the contrasting Jade hue appears over the branding, namely the Nike Swooshes and the “Nike Air” logos on the tongues.
For sneakerheads who are eager to cop a pair of the Air Max 1 “Elephant Print,” it will arrive at retailers once again as a part of an atmos Nike/Jordan Pack on March 18th, 2017. The pack will also include an Air Jordan 3, which is inspired by and resembles the Air Max 1.
