Back in 1992, the U.S. men’s national basketball team was progressing through quite a perfect Olympic campaign. Finally in Barcelona, Spain, the Dream Team won the gold medal, defeating Croatia with a score of 117-85. While that final game was undoubtedly historic, the Dream Team itself was equally memorable. After all, all of the 11 NBA athletes who had been a part of the Dream Team are Hall of Fame players and Michael Jordan had been one of them. Throughout the 1992 Olympics, Michael Jordan had rocked the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” and recently Jordan Brand dropped the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic Alternate.”
In each game that had taken place during the 1992 Olympics, the Dream Team had scored an average of 43.8 points and the U.S. men’s national basketball team eventually set an 8-0 record. Even though twenty-four years have passed since the 1992 Olympic Games, it seems that Team USA is once again dominating at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. Team USA is currently leading the way in the preliminaries, along with Team Australia. The 2016 U.S. men’s national basketball team recently defeated Venezuela with a score of 113-69 and sneakerheads may celebrate by copping the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic/Tinker Alternate.”
The Air Jordan 7 “Tinker Alternate” is more vibrant than the original “Olympic” version. This year’s “Olympic Alternate” iteration sports a color scheme that matches up with the 2016 Team USA Nike Basketball uniforms. Like the original, this year’s rendition features predominantly clean White tumbled leather uppers that are topped with Deep Royal Blue and Fire Red detailing throughout, adding a patriotic touch. The fact that the 2016 Team USA is pursuing Olympic Gold is represented on the sneaker by the Metallic Gold Coin accents, while some of the side panel overlays are also covered in Lite Ore.
The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics are still underway and Team USA still has to progress through the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, but there is little doubt that they will end up winning Olympic gold. Thus, there’s no better of celebrating Team USA’s impending victory than with a pair of the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic Alternate,” which recently hit the shelves on August 6th and should be available for $190.
