The Nike KD 4 was Kevin Durant’s first signature silhouette to receive the “Aunt Pearl” treatment and over the years, it has become somewhat of a monumental saga. Sneakerheads, especially those who are fans of Kevin Durant, are likely aware that his aunt passed away back in 2001 as a result of cancer and this is how the tradition of “Aunt Pearl” KD sneakers commenced. Along with being a nod and tribute to the memory of Kevin’s aunt, the KD 8 “Aunt Pearl” will also serve as a means of supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Along with further raising the bar than the KD 7 “Aunt Pearl” from last year, this year’s “Aunt Pearl” iteration of the KD 8 also appears to be far more colorway than previous installments. As always, this year’s rendition is once again dressed up iridescent floral graphics and motifs as homage to aunt Pearl’s fight with breast cancer. Its Flyweave upper features a combination of pink and purple hues, even including Hyper Turquoise and Vivid Pink. While not as clean as last year’s version, it is definitely captivating.
As mentioned, the Nike release 2016 of the KD 8 “Aunt Pearl” seems to be taking place earlier than expected. So, the the KD 8 “Aunt Pearl” will hit the shelves ahead of its typical schedule on February 22nd and will be up for grabs at a retail price of $200.
