Sneakerheads Can Now Enter A Raffle To Win An Auto-Lacing Nike Mag Pair

The Nike Mag that Marty McFly had worn in 1989’s Back to the Future Part II is a sneaker that has tremendous pop-cultural appeal. Since Michael J. Fox’s character had appeared rocking the Nike Mag after traveling to October 21st, 2015, a lot of sneakerheads had assumed Nike would perhaps finally drop the futuristic on that very date last year. Although that did not exactly happen, Michael did appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he not only unveiled an auto-lacing Nike Mag pair, but also confirmed that this sneaker would eventually be available. A year later, that time is finally here and the Nike Mag is indeed arriving.

nike-mag-2016-back-to-the-future-2This actually will not be the first time that the Nike Mag has released because they were technically available in 2011 as well via auctions, the proceeds of which had gone to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. However, the key element that sets this year’s upcoming Nike Mag apart from the 2011 version is the fact that they had been lacking the auto-lacing system. Even then, all of the Nike Mag pairs from 2011 had ultimately been auctioned off for a total of $4.7 million. The highest price at which one of those pairs had been auctioned off was a whopping $37,500.

While sneakerheads will certainly be able to own an auto-lacing Nike Mag pair very soon, this will once again not be a general release. Fortunately, sneakerheads will not have to spend hefty sums of money in order to cop a pair because they will not be auctioned off this time. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to own the 2016 Air Mag version because Nike has only produced 89 pairs in total since Back to the Future II had been released back in 1989. Instead of auctions, all of those pairs will be raffled off and they have been produced in sizes 7, 9, 11 and 13.

nike-mag-2016-back-to-the-future-3Anyone who wants to enter the raffle simply has to donate $10 to the Michael J. Fox Foundation before October 11th. For those who are not aware, the Michael J. Fox Foundation strives to combat Parkinson’s Disease.
