Earlier this year back in February, a large number of musical artists and performs were in attendance at the Super Bowl 50 Halftime. While Bruno Mars’ singing and Beyonce’s dancing were definitely among the highlights of the show, sneakerheads in the audience would have likely paid close attention to the performance of Chris Martin from Cold Play. After all, he was rocking quite a colorful Air Jordan Spizike on stage, which was either an exclusive that Jordan Brand crafted for him or a pair he created himself on NIKEiD. Despite a long hiatus, it seems the Air Jordan Spizike has returned to be under the spotlight again.
Over the years, most sneakerheads have not exactly been in favor of hybrid Air Jordan silhouette. It remains uncertain why this is so, but they are very protective of and value OGs the most, while they also tend to keep an eye out of retro iterations as well. The Air Jordan Spizike is perhaps the only exception to this since it has been widely accepted within the sneaker community and they have even looked forward to the arrival of brand new colorways that have been unveiled over the years. By now, it is a known fact that the Spizike combines elements from the Air Jordan 3 to 6 and the Air Jordan 20.
In the recent past, Jordan Brand has not dropped that many colorways of the Spizike, but it seems that the latest one might actually join 2016’s Air Jordan releases. This new Air Jordan Spizike colorway is being referred to as “Wheat.” Living up to its nickname, the uppers of this sneaker are predominantly made up of Tan-colored suede, but some Brown-colored overlays can also be spotted in the form of the vamp panels. The same Tan hue also appears over the eyelets, plastic wings and the pull tabs. A darker shade of Tan also covers the Elephant print overlays around the ankles and toeboxes. Finally, this sneaker also appears to be equipped with a combination of Brown-colored laces with Black- and Silver-colored lace locks, while seemingly Gum Rubber outsoles lie beneath the Brown-colored midsoles.
Considering that merely the first photo of this sneaker has just popped up online, it is uncertain whether it will arrive at retailers in 2016 or 2017. So, all that can be done for now is to stay tuned for further news and updates.
